Spending heaps of happy retirement hours in the shed making toys for kids and woodturning for grownups

After retiring, I attended a woodworking show and came across some plans to build these basic cars. All dimensions were in American so after many hours converting to decimal and configuring to the sizes Bunnings sold, the project began.

The Story

It started around 2012 and over the next few years the designs changed and became more detailed, there were requests from friends to make specific models and then there were many years of donating product for fund raising raffles for Ronald McDonald House and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Direction Changed

After making about 45 cars, planes and trains, I joined the Gold Coast Woodturners in 2022, based in Mudgeeraba, and with their support started to turn out vases, bowls, candlesticks and spinning tops.

We have a double garage and only one car now, so I converted the other half to a shed.

This is me. Retired and happy running in the Robina Fun Run 2018.

This is the Shed. Famously named by my Grandson, new generation, who always have to shorten English words. So Grandad’s Shed was renamed to G’dads Shed.
